Our Unique Approach
DQI was founded in 1987 by Jonathan Sprawson. Jonathan’s childhood love of designing and building, and his exposure to construction came together to create his passion for architecture that considers the entire building process.
In addition to Jonathan’s passion for the process, he brings unique and often unexpected solutions to the client’s goals. It is his creativity and “outside of the box” thinking that elevates designs to the next level.
DQI’s design philosophy is to view design as a vehicle to create inspired spaces that exceed the client’s wants and needs, Elements of natural light, respecting nature and the environment, incorporating thoughtful efficiencies in each stage and understanding of community are also cornerstones of DQI’s design philosophy.
DQI strives to achieve this philosophy through our all-inclusive approach that brings the sum of all dreams, expertise, and skills together, creating places beyond what any one element could have created independently.

Jonathan Sprawson
FOUNDER & ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER
Jonathan attended University of Waterloo to become a graduate architect. The artistry that Jonathan brings to the design process is reflected in his beautiful hand drawn design and renderings. Jonathan is an avid cyclist, sailor and hockey player and treasures his relationships with family and friends.

Benjamin Sprawson
ARCHITECT TECHNOLOGIST
Ben is a skilled draftsmen with a degree from George Brown. He uses 3D modelling software to help our clients truly envision their future homes. Other responsibilities include permit applications and project management. He is a father to two young children, a fitness lover and practices meditation and mindfulness.

Nancy McGuigan
PROJECT MANAGER & INTERIORS
Nancy brings a wealth of knowledge and over 20 years of experience at DQI and makes it all flow. She truly cares about each client, getting to know them, their needs, preferences, budgets and design dreams. Her eye for interior finishes and selections takes her over the top. Nancy cherishes being able to bring her four legged side kick to the office.

John McGillivray
CONSTRUCTION LEAD
John has a very good understanding of how to build a home. His even-keeled demeanour and his ability to educate throughout each step of the building stage is unique and well-respected amongst crews and clients. John is riding his bike across Canada (in short intervals) with his wife and friends.

Kate McManus
OFFICE PROJECT SPECIALIST
Kate is a recent addition to DQI family. Her role is primarily focused behind the scenes, connecting with external administrations and associations. Her positive can-do attitude means she also lends a helping hand with office administration and team tasks as well.

Sandra Boardman
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER
Sandra has an amazing ability to create and develop working drawings from the simplest hand sketch. Her other strengths include planning and permitting applications and working with consultants, municipalities, and clients. Sandra is originally from Ireland where she gained her MRIAI license.
